How Does Essential Oils Support Fertility?

Pure and highly concentrated essential oil has the ability to increase, stimulate, and regulate certain hormones; these plants are known to be phytohormonal which means they contain plant hormones that mimic some of our own hormones.

There are different hormones responsible for our ability to conceive; take a look at some of these hormones:

Estrogen: A female steroid hormone that is produced by the ovaries. It influences the course of ovulation in the monthly menstrual cycle, and helps control and guide sexual development.

Progesterone: Is the principal hormone that prepares the uterus (the womb) to receive and sustain the fertilized egg. It is often referred to as the pregnancy hormone, it plays a key role in fetal development, the menstrual cycle, cervical mucus, the onset of labor, breast development, and helps prevent pre-term birth.

Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH): A hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland which promotes the formation and maturation of ovaries and sperm.

Luteinizing Hormone: Regulate ovulation in women and the production of testosterone in men.

Prolactin: A hormone that promotes milk production. Shown to have more than 300 functions in the human body such as reproductive, metabolic, regulation of fluids and the immune system as well as behavioral functions.

Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone: A hormone produced by the hypothalamus that signals the anterior pituitary gland to begin secreting luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone.

Testosterone: Produced by the Leydig cells in testes in men and by the ovaries in women and is the primary male sex hormone.

Oxytocin: Also called “love hormone” an important player in social behavior including sexual arousal, orgasm, bonding, recognition, trust, and anxiety.

Essential oils work to repair cell’s receptor sites. Receptor sites are proteins that are on the surface of each cell. Every cell in your body has thousands of locations on its surface that serve as “mini” sense organs, called receptor sites.

They act as little receivers (or ears) that listen to the messages of the chemical messenger molecules as they float in the intercellular fluid surrounding every cell.

Essential oil works in different ways. When an essential oil is applied on the surface of the skin, it absorbs and excrete substances with small molecular structures and float in the intercellular fluid surrounding every cell sending out messages to where they will be most beneficial.

The oils are then absorbed into our skin and underlying tissues and taken throughout the body through our blood and this, in turn, results in healing.

Essential oils placed anywhere on the body are “transdermal” which means they can actually pass through your skin into your circulatory system and cells.
